This was my second time going to Toki. I had the chicken curry ramen, fried chicken buns, and a cocktail. Overall the food and service at Toki is amazing. This is definitely some of the best ramen I've had. The only negative I have with this location in particular is that it is very small, and the inside is hot. If you plan on dining in here, just be aware that seating is limited and it's very close together. Lastly if you plan on visiting this location, I'd recommend taking a Lyft or Uber here.
Tori Underground has a fun, hipster urban vibe with fantastic food. The ramen here is simply delicious, with a broth that's rich and flavorful, topped off with a perfectly poached egg. The bao buns were a hit too, perfectly fluffy and packed with flavor. Service was fast and efficient. The decor adds to the overall charm, creating a lively atmosphere that's perfect for casual dining or catching up with friends. Definitely worth the walk from Union station if you're taking the metro!
Came here for dinner on a Friday evening! Very minimal seating available. We had a reservation for 4 and we were seated at the bar. It was nice that we could watch them making the ramen. The ramen was very good! I was not very hungry at dinner so I took a lot to go. It was delicious for leftovers! The flavors were great! Yum!
Went to Toki with a couple friends and it was so fun! Got the brussels to share and then I got the classic ramen and both were delicious! Didnt finish the ramen, and they boxed it up to nice and it was just as delicious the next day! Seating is limited and very crowded, but staff is great as navigating the space!
I love ramen and I think DC has a great ramen scene, thanks in part to places like Toki Underground. We started with the pork belly steam buns, which were an excellent appetizer. You get to build four of your own buns, each stuffed with pork, kimchi, mustard, and delicately curled green onions. For mains, I got the red miso ramen, which was really tasty. The broth is thick and delicious, the noodles have just the right amount of chew, and the whole affair is topped with a gooey poached egg. I highly recommend this one. Of course, the Toki classic ramen is excellent too. And, if you're looking for something just a little different, the Taipei curry chicken ramen might scratch that itch for you. We were quite full by this point, but our server let us know that they were offering a special strawberry shortcake. Who was I to refuse? And the cake was well worth it. Lastly, I have to mention the decor, which is just fascinating. You'll have to go to experience it yourself!
Amazing service and food. We tried an array of apps and each got a different entree. My favorites were the cloud shrimp and curry chicken ramen. Broth was so warm and comforting after a long walk around the city. Space is small so would be better as a date night spot then a family dinner. Our only complaint we had was the space of the bar and trying to converse was hard (we had 5 in our party) but a fault of ours not theirs for not checking first. With no reservation they were still able to seat us immediately which we greatly appreciated.
A small restaurant actually located high above ground and accessed by taking stairs, Toki Underground did not disappoint with their food! My friend and I had a reservation and took advantage of a $25 off $75 deal, so we ordered quite a few items--yuzu lemonade ($5), chilled tofu ($7), vegan dumplings ($8), red miso ramen ($18), spicy vegan mushroom shoyu ramen ($18), and shortcake for dessert ($8). The lemonade and tofu were nice and refreshing, and my friend practically inhaled the shortcake at the end. My mushroom ramen was on the saltier side and had beets and sour pickled vegetables which I personally thought clashed with the savory ramen broth. Otherwise the noodles were very good, and we left extremely full! Service was initially slow and it took awhile to get our waiter's attention to order, but the food arrived reasonably quickly and they checked in on us often.
Food tastes like it's missing salt. The vegan ramen is good. The diversity of vegetables were present but a lil salt and maybe a spice bomb would really help the broth out. The dumplings taste like it's missing seasonings and the pan fried texture wasn't as crispy as I thought it would be. Excellent service! Loved the customer service experience. Cute little spot that can't fit more than 15 ppl at once so I would recommend as a solo date night or go with 1-2 ppl max.
Loved the energy here! Establishment is upstairs, very casual, urban eclectic deco. They played a lot of urban music to go with the vibe. A ton of peculiar stickers on every surface and kitschy items scattered in random corners. Makes for a fun game to see what is the weirdest item you can find. Servers were super courteous and sat us immediately. It was a medium night, not too busy or empty. I got the Toki classic. Braised pork was a little over cooked but overall a balanced ramen broth and other ingredients! Not too salty. I was not expecting a large metal spoon , but it did the job! Is this authentic ramen?...not exactly but it was definitely super good and service was so spectacular! Would definitely return.
I'm so glad I finally got to try Toki, after hearing so much about it! Came for dinner with two friends with an 8pm reservation. The interior has so much personality: it's a small space but stylish, with a casual, punk twist (think skateboards as footrests, funky stickers plastering the walls). I think it's basically all bar seating against the wall, which might be tougher for larger groups but was fine for the three of us. The food and drinks here are more of a "twist" on traditional Japanese dishes (e.g. kimchi ramen, Taipei curry chicken ramen). I ordered the "Baijiu I Think She's Got it" cocktail (always curious to try a baijiu-based cocktail!) and the kimchi ramen, and the three of us shared fried chicken steamed buns. (Pro tip: You can add a bun to your order for just $1.50.) All of the food was fantastic. The fried chicken is super tender, and has just the right amount of glaze without losing its crispiness. The ramen was really flavorful, and I love that it came with a bunch of toppings (poached egg, Chinese broccoli, nori, pickled ginger) at no extra cost. The broth is also the right amount of thick, which is hard to find! The cocktail was great, too. You can taste the baijiu, but the drink is more of a sour, which I really enjoyed. Prices are pretty standard for DC (~$15/cocktail, ~$20/ramen), but the quality of the food here is better than a bunch of other DC ramen places I've been to (Daikaya, Bantam King, Haikan). Can't wait to be back!
